Some really cool things can be learned from dry financial reports

I almost bit the bullet and started writing something about the odds of touch-enabled notebooks again, but then I discovered something more interesting in the report I was about to use as inspiration.

Found here, the report mentions, in passing, hilariously enough, that laptops powered by Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs are selling at discounts of over 30%.

Clearly, that's no small matter. Especially with many notebooks already shipping for less than $1,000 / €1,000.

It will no doubt hurt shipments of Haswell-enabled laptops, which, in turn, will harm sales of touch-enabled PCs, since most of those that make touchscreen laptops go for the full package and harness the gifts of current-generation CPUs in addition to Windows 8.

So check out your latest retailer if you're in the market for a new notebook and don't necessarily need a Haswell. Unless you like AMD more of course, in which case there is little doubt you'll find a suitable APU-based model.
