The Resogun Heroes expansion has just been released onto the PlayStation 4 and Sony has now offered more details about the fresh game modes included in the add-on, not to mention a gameplay video and a few screenshots showing it in action.

Resogun appeared alongside the PS4 back in November of last year and quickly became one of the most popular experiences for the new console, especially since it was offered for free to all PlayStation Plus members.

Now, after launching a free patch that included a Ship Editor and quite a few other enhancements, developer Housemarque and Sony's XDEV studio have rolled out the Heroes expansion, which adds even more new things to the arcade game.

First up are two new modes called Survival and Demolition, which both change up the style of play for the experience.

Survival gives players only one life and tasks them with setting as high scores as possible for different benefits.

"The Humans you saved are back, and they’re ready to help you power up. Parachuting into the level frequently, they can be immediately collected to power up your weapons and give you the edge with several power ups including an improved shield, Clock (turbo speed), overcharged weapons and much more. Add those to your boost, overdrive and guns, and you’re a true force to be reckoned with," Sony said on the PS blog.

When players die, the game offers feedback and there are a few bonuses to entice them to overcome their past high score. The Fallen Heroes feature places holograms of your ship on a timeline and, if you surpass them, they activate and can improve your shield or weapons. Monuments will also be displayed with the performances of your friends and those from the global leaderboards.

The Demolition mode replaces your ship's weapons with a new proximity bomb that recharges after each use.

"No other weapons, boost or overdrive here. What you do have is the Wrecking Ball. When it’s caught in the explosion of your proximity bomb, it will fly off around Avernus destroying everything it hits… including you!"

Powerups and progression change the attributes of the bomb, so players will have quite a varied experience in the new Demolition mode.

Besides the two modes, a new environment called Avernus is also included, complete with a day and night cycle, not to mention a fresh set of trophies.
