The war against the Chimera just got personal during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3, as we all know it nowadays) since Sony pulled out a PSP and presented Resistance: Retribution, a game under development at Bend Studio, which is planned to be released in spring 2009. The game will be a third person action adventure set only weeks after Resistance: Fall of Man.

Bend Studio has created a brand new story and introduced weapons and enemies never seen before in the previous title, all these having in mind Sony's handheld. Even more, the company promises that the game will look as good as possible, pushing the gaming system to its limit and offering a visual experience similar to the one we got in the original title.

As I've said, Resistance: Retribution is set in the weeks after the first release, following the story of the former British Marine James Grayson. After being forced to kill his own brother, he goes on a vendetta to destroy all the Chimerian conversion centers he can find. However, he doesn't succeed, as he soon finds out that, in Western Europe, the Chimera uses other techniques to turn humans into aliens. So, it's time for a brand new war to start - the Resistance war!

According to the E3 details, the game will be a bridge connecting Resistance: Fall of Man and the upcoming Resistance 2. Using Bend Studio's in-house engine, we'll get more on-screen enemies, detailed characters and overall improved visuals. Also, the developers promise to come with a revolutionary targeting system which will allow us to test the tons of weapons prepared for our Chimerian war: Auger, Carbine, and the LAARK (some of the players' favorites from the previous title) as well as brand new artilleries, like the BM001 Razor and the Longbow 1S-1K - a sniper rifle that kills enemies with only one shot.

Eight player multiplayer modes will be possible, as well as five different game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation (all available via ad-hoc infrastructure), but none of these sooner than spring 2009.
