Well, as it turns out, the extended story isn't what everyone hoped or hinted at

Insomniac's exclusive PS3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man is indeed getting a "story extension," yet not exactly a story-line extension (as in a sequel) but more in new multiplayer maps and some game modes. SCEA and Insomniac have made a detailed comment on this in a press release today, saying that coinciding with the PS3 European launch, on 23 March the update will be introduced as well. There will be two new multiplayer modes, Team Conversion (Conversion with teams) and Assault (destroy the defending team's base), plus a spectator camera.

That's not all. The two companies also said that a second update is on its way for a May release, enabling global competition with two new multiplayer maps that will be available for purchase at that time. The alternate history where the world did not experience World War II, the Great Depression, or the rise of Communism in Russia is a superb PS3 title, expected to do some selling for the console as well and not just for the game itself. Resistance: Fall of Man is a pretty different FPS, where some weapons are based on real weapons from the 1950s, while others are futuristically altered, in accordance with the game's storyline.

So then, this means extending the story huh? Now, there are hundreds out there disappointed that Resistance isn't getting its sequel, or its handheld version or whatever, but if we think about it, not twisting Sony's executive words around would have been less disappointing, wouldn't you say?
