Resistance 3, the new sci-fi first-person shooter from Insomniac Games will see its weapons thoroughly balanced in order to keep players from using the same ones over and over again, while retaining the unique features that made plenty of fan favorites.

Insomniac's Resistance series impressed through its interesting premise, of an alternate reality past where humanity is invaded by alien monsters called the Chimera, but also through its array of unique weapons that allowed players to make quick work of the aforementioned aliens.

For the third game, Insomniac promises that classic weapons will make a comeback, while new ones are going to be added, all more than capable of helping the new protagonist, Joseph Capelli deal with the Chimera threat.

"Every weapon is generally effective against anything, but there's degrees of effectiveness," said Resistance 3 senior designer Cameron Christian to GamaSutra.

"Let's talk about the Auger and that case with the Hulk fight, right? The Auger is going to be a bad choice, because there is no place for you to hide and shoot through walls. You can hit his weak points, and they'll do damage, but it's not going to be as effective as, say, the Magnum, which can stick to that guy and really do some serious damage to it."

Things will be a bit more fair in the new game, however, as Christian highlights that weapons like the Auger, which allowed players to see through walls and shoot enemies, have seen their powers reduced.

"The Auger is people's favorite weapon, but it's their favorite weapon because it is super overpowered," admitted Christian. "We pull back the range on being able to see through walls. So before you could see through walls across a whole entire level, right? And now we pull that back to a significant distance."

As you can see, Insomniac has refined the mechanics of Resistance 3, in order to offer a more polished experience and make it stand out for all PlayStation 3 owners on September 6, when it is released.
