The Resistance first person shooter series, developed by Insomniac Games exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 3, has just received a batch of new information about its upcoming title, Resistance 3, after its mysterious live action trailer in August.

The Resistance franchise has become a staple for the PS3, and accompanied its launch, with Resistance: Fall of Man, and cemented its popularity with Resistance 2 a couple of years ago.

Now, Resistance 3 is getting ready for its debut next year, so Insomniac decided to spill plenty of details through Game Informer magazine, including screenshots and the name of the game's new protagonist.

Below, you can see that things have taken a turn for the worse, and humanity is now enslaved by the Chimera aliens, despite the efforts of Nathan Hale, the protagonist of the first two games.

Now, Joe Capelli, one of Hale's companions in Resistance 2, will lead the fight against the Chimera through the streets of New York City, at least according to the few details that were revealed.

Tim Turi from Game Informer said of the magazine's ten page Resistance 3 feature: "A batch of stunning Resistance 3 screenshots recently hit the web, but those pretty pictures of Insomniac's upcoming PS3 shooter are a mere glimpse into the harrowing world that's awaiting new protagonist Joe Capelli."

No other details were revealed, but expect Insomniac to further polish the great experience it delivered with the first two games, and take the series into new places, at least judging from the screenshots and the teaser trailer we saw up until now.

While not becoming as popular as Xbox 360 exclusives Halo or Gears of War, Resistance has a lot of fans, all of whom are desperately waiting details about the next game in the series.

Check out the screenshots and artwork below and then share your thoughts about the upcoming title.
