Capcom forced to charge extra because it uses bigger cartridges

Capcom has confirmed that its upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations survival horror title will cost more than regular games for the Nintendo 3DS because of its increased quality that requires the Japanese company to use a bigger capacity cartridge.

Capcom didn't exactly win any fans with its first Resident Evil title for the 3DS, The Mercenaries 3D, as it had a special single save game system that prevent people from deleting their files.

Now, after announcing the that upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations will allow players complete control over their save games, abandoning that old system, Capcom follows up with a piece of information that might not please 3DS owners.

According to a representative which talked to Kotaku, Revelations is a great looking game of impressive quality, so much so that Capcom is charging more for it than other 3DS games because it needed a bigger cartridge to hold all the data for Revelations.

While most games for the new 3DS console cost $40 or around 40 Euros, depending on your location, Resident Evil: Revelations will cost $50 (most probably 50 Euros) when it's going to be released.

"Resident Evil Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D," Capcom's representative said. "A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional Raid mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point."

This price puts Resident Evil: Revelations on par with most games made for the Nintendo Wii or the PC, and just below full pledged console games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which retail for $60 (60 Euros).

While the footage and screenshots from Revelations looked pretty impressive up until now considering it's running on the small handheld console, this steep price might drive away gamers at least until it's lowered.

What do you think? Will you still get Resident Evil: Revelations when it will be released on January 26, in Japan, January 27, in Europe, or February 7, in North America or just wait for a discount?
