Resident Evil: Revelations is going to be aimed right at classic franchise fans, at least according to Capcom, who revealed that the game, which is set to appear for the Nintendo 3DS, has classic horror elements and trademarks of the long-running survival horror series.

Capcom wants to take advantage of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld, and is preparing not one, but two Resident Evil games for the 3D-enabled device.

We already heard about the first one, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, and now the Revelations title has received even more details about its story and gameplay.

Masachika Kawada, the producer of Resident Evil: Revelations, revealed that, besides offering a true horror experience, the game had lots of the features that had made the first games in the franchise so popular.

"We want a scarier game than before, one that avoids the style of RE4 and instead goes with the old style up to RE3, where you're solving puzzles and exploring," said Kawada.

"Recent games in the series have been more about fast excitement, but fear is the main drive of this game from the start - something so scary to the player, he'll instinctively want to run as fast as he can. Suspense plays a key part here."

Another key role will be played by the Nintendo 3DS' unique capabilities, as the 3D technology will ensure a more immersive and realistic experience.

"The ship's innards are dark, subdued, and packed with fear. The 3D screen really recreates the feel of peering into a corridor and thinking you can see something on the other end - that's why we're concentrating on the horror in this game; because it's such a good fit with the hardware," revealed the game's Director, Koushi Nakanishi.

Judging by the screenshots revealed up until now, Resident Evil: Revelations is looking extremely sharp and will no doubt satisfy long time fans of the series.

Sadly, neither Revelations nor Mercenaries received a concrete release date as of yet, but you might expect them around the holiday season of 2011.
