Unclear when the patch will be out for all players

The reaction of the community to the fact that Resident Evil Revelations 2 was missing local cooperative play on launch on the PC, despite it being listed as a feature for the title before it was released, seems to have been strong enough for the development team at Capcom to introduce a new beta patch for the game on Steam in order to enable the feature.

The team is saying that gamers who are interested in experiencing it right now need to go to their game, then select Properties and input the code bhr2qasplitmaster00 before choosing the qa_split_master option.

A patch will be downloaded and gamers will then be able to play local coop for Resident Evil Revelations 2 in both Raid and the campaign.

The company explains that there are some issues with the cooperative experience at the moment, saying that "Menu option and UI elements specific to co-op mode aren't implemented in this build. Split screen mode requires two game controllers supporting XInput such as the Xbox 360/Xbox One game pad. Those using DualShock or other non-XInput device may need to resort to XInput emulation software."

All those who are using the beta patch on Steam are asked to offer feedback to the team in order to make sure that it does not have issues when it is launched for the entire PC community.

Wording in the official thread suggests that some elements might not be perfectly polished when coop is first added, and Capcom also says that all those who are still dissatisfied will be able to seek refunds.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 aims to deliver an episodic experience

The new title in the long-running franchise is split into episodes and Capcom is aiming to see whether the new system makes the title more attractive to the fan base.

Each new installment comes with more levels, especially for the Raid mode and with more characters to use in combat.

The coop issue on the PC might have long-term consequences for the popularity of the series on the platform, but Resident Evil Revelations 2 is also offered on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and last-gen consoles.

The second episode comes this week and a retail version is also planned for launch towards the end of the month.
