Capcom has just offered more details about the Resident Evil remastered version that's set to debut next year for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, confirming that it's rebuilt the original from scratch to take advantage of modern technology, while retaining the core features of the first title in the series.

Resident Evil appeared way back in 1996 and established the survival horror genre into the gaming space, delivering a great experience despite the limitations of those early consoles. The title received a remake for the newer platforms in 2002 and now, after quite a lot of years, Capcom wants to once again remaster the original game.

The dev has offered some more details on its website about the new effort from its internal studio, confirming that the team wants to once again overhaul the original game and take advantage of the new platforms. It also emphasizes that it won't mess around with the core features of the first Resident Evil, in order to not lose the feeling it evoked with millions of fans worldwide.

"With modern technology we can make the scares even more real in terms of both graphics and sound. The interface has also been updated to meet today's standards. But don't worry, we made sure not to change anything that made the original the classic that it is. You don't mess with a masterpiece, after all."

Capcom also highlights the survival horror experience that's included in the new remastered title, with players once again needing to survive in a zombie-infested mansion, while solving puzzles and other such challenges.

"Supplies are limited. Danger lurks around every corner. You're trapped in an enclosed environment with nowhere to run. This is a recipe for fear, anxiety, and exhilaration," the studio explains.

"You find yourself trapped in a mansion, and you're going to have to investigate every corner to find a way out. While securing your escape, you'll find yourself fighting off enemies, scavenging for supplies, and discovering hidden items. Do whatever you can to survive the nightmare."

The same combat and story are present in this new and improved version of Resident Evil, and you can bet that more details will be shared soon enough, probably at Gamescom 2014 later this week.

Capcom has yet to confirm what things it will show off at the large German convention, but you can bet that some info about Resident Evil is going to be revealed.
