After quite a lot of teasing and leaks, Capcom has finally confirmed Resident Evil 6, the newest installment in its long running survival horror franchise. The Japanese company presented a full list of details about the game, as well as a trailer and even a release date of November 20.

Resident Evil 6 has been rumored for quite some time as Capcom promised that, after the more action-oriented 5, the series would go back to its survival roots.

Now, after plenty of teaser campaigns, the Japanese company officially presented Resident Evil 6, a “dramatic horror” experience with both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes.

"Blending action and survival horror, this latest instalment in the multi-million selling franchise is the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year," Capcom said about this new game.

Resident Evil 6 is set 10 years after the events in Raccoon City and will see players take on the role of famous characters from the series, like Leon S. Kennedy or Chris Redfield, as well as plenty of new characters, “each with their own unique perspective and involvement.”

"It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President's side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision,” the company said about the game’s story.

“At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world's population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left."

As you can see from the video below, the story, while once again focusing on horror elements, is still filled with action as all of the playable characters are going through some intense adventures.

Resident Evil 6 is out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 around the world on November 20, 2012, while a PC version will follow soon after that.
