Video game developer and publisher Capcom has announced that those who pre-order the upcoming Resident Evil 6 through a number of retail chains will be able to get access to an exclusive map that can be used in the Mercenaries multiplayer game mode.

Gamestop will give its customers a chance to experience The Catacombs, which takes place deep inside a catacomb system where enemies combine with a number of booby traps in order to surprise the player and put him in difficult situations.

Those who get Resident Evil 6 from Amazon will be able to play in the High Seas Fortress, the actual deck of an aircraft carriers and its own plane hangars, mixing long-range firefights with close quarters engagements where melee moves work best.

Players who get the new zombie driven game from Best Buy will get access to the Rail Yard, set in a steel and concrete railroad yard where players need to emphasize movement in order to make sure they don’t get trapped by zombies.

The Mercenaries game mode in Resident Evil 6 allows players to cooperate in order to hold off the waves of zombies that assault them.

Capcom has not said whether the maps linked to each of the retailers will be offered to the entire player base after the game launches and what price might be attached to them at that point.

Resident Evil 6 will tell a story that mixes strands for Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and the newly introduced son of Albert Wesker.

Each of them will start in a different location, with separate motives, but the end game will see all the core characters meet in China.

Resident Evil 6 will be launched in early October on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC powered by Windows.
