The development team working on the upcoming Resident Evil 6 video game from Capcom have said that they are not looking to any previous title in the series for inspiration and are very much aiming to deliver their own take on the genre and the mythology.

Speaking to IGN Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who is a producer working on Resident Evil 6, stated, “We have a ton of respect for the past RE games.

“The ways in which they were each able to provide unique experiences is incredibly important. With RE6 we hope to create an even greater game than the previous entries in the series. That being said, we are not focusing on any previous title in particular.”

He added, “What we can say though, is that we do consider the things we have learned from previous RE games to be really beneficial as we make this new title.”

The first trailer that Capcom delivered to introduce Resident Evil 6 starred both Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield and the limited gameplay shots suggested gameplay elements taken from both the fourth and the fifth core games in the series.

Hirabayashi also says that the focus on Leon and Chris is linked to their roles inside the story of Resident Evil 6, but the developer also says that they planning to add a lot more names and faces to the cast, some of which will surprise fans of the series.

Resident Evil 6 is designed by Capcom to revive the fortunes of the horror shooter series, eliminating any bad feelings that the fifth game has created among the player base.

The initial announcement from publisher Capcom says that the game will be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony on November 20 of this year, although a postponement is certainly a possibility.
