In the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the multiplayer modes of Capcom's most recent iteration in its horror survival franchise Resident Evil 5. After a leaked trophy list revealed some achievements that players would unlock in two new modes, people started to talk about them.

On Friday, the Japanese company decided to reveal more details on the new Versus mode of multiplayer that introduces two types of gameplay, Slayer and Survival, where characters that appear in the game can be controlled by players and fight against each other or against zombies. The mode will arrive as paid DLC for the game, news that didn't make gamers happy.

A lot of them said that Capcom was just trying to make profit off of them, and that it included the multiplayer mode on the game disk, but locked it so that people would have to pay extra in order to gain access to it. Now, a representative of the Japanese company has revealed that the DLC, which will appear on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store at the price of 4.49 dollars or 400 MS Points, doesn't just unlock features already present on the game disk.

“Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5,” said the Capcom representative. “We have never included a Versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there's also additional bandwidth costs associated with it.”

So it seems that things aren't so bad, as Capcom isn't trying to gain extra money off the game, which has received some very solid review scores up until now. What about you?
