The name Ken Lally might not ring any bells to most people but he is a Hollywood actor with a very decent portfolio of roles in hit series like Heroes or Alias. However, maybe one of his most important performances was the recent voice action and motion capture for the Alan Wesker role in Capcom's upcoming zombie shooter Resident Evil 5. He recently talked about his role and the whole experience behind it with the Resident Evil Horror website. Here's what he had to say about the horror survival title.

"After watching the stuff that I saw, when I went in for my interviews a couple of weeks ago, about a month ago, I can’t wait. This is like the first game I’ve ever really wanted to play. It just looks so cool. It’s better than any motion capture movie I’ve ever seen, like Polar Express or Beowulf. I mean, just the design and the concept of lighting, even though it’s computer generated, the world itself is so unique and so dangerous. It’s shocking how unique it is. I would want to play the games just to immerse myself into that world."

Quite impressive words considering that the two titles have been praised by critics for having the most lifelike graphics in the movie industry. He then went on saying that, given another chance, he would lend his voice and body to other videogame characters, citing the fact that the thrills you get from interpreting such quality roles are very satisfying.

"I’ve played similar characters in video games. On a few characters in World of Warcraft, and I played a couple of characters in Castlevania too. I played a kind of funky character in the Darkness. I’m always playing bad guys, and the best thing about video games is they’re very epic. Like a Peter Jackson movie. You get to say lines like 'I’m gonna’ kill you last', or 'Your soul will burn in hell for eternity' you know ? Stuff like that, that day to day your average actor on General Hospital or something doesn’t get to pull off. Hopefully I’ll be able to make the round as Albert Wesker at the gaming-cons, because it’s such a great character and I would love to be able to do that."

It's really nice to see actors who are so satisfied with playing roles for videogames as most of them tend to consider the gaming industry not worthy of their time or experience. But it now seems like things are going to change, as we are seeing more and more great names playing in games, with the upcoming Red Alert 3 strategy title boasting quite an impressive lineup of actors, like JK Simmons, George Takei or Tim Curry.

Ken Lally here, if you get the chance, check out my website at www.myspace.com/kenlally, for behind the scenes photos and forthcoming Capcom interviews and stills.
FYI, I didnt do the VOICE for Wesker; I only acted and voiced him during the mo-cap shoot. I think, however, that my Wesker voice is quite good, and in fact the director and U.S. production team lobbied for, and planned on having me do the voice as well (as I was doing it during the scenes), but Capcom nixed the idea and dubbed my voice over with the original voice actor.

Thanks for the kind article!

Ken
