You have to pay for multiplayer, thinks Capcom

Capcom has just detailed the future multiplayer mode for its latest Resident Evil 5 title, thus confirming the speculations that have arisen from the trophy list update for the PlayStation 3 version. As we reported yesterday, a few new trophies were added, to be given to players who achieve various tasks in four multiplayer modes that weren't included in the retail version of the game.

The Versus mode will arrive on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms via DLC but it will be priced, as players who want to get in on the multiplayer action will need to pay 5 dollars or 400 MS Points. Although it is entitled just like one of the multiplayer modes found in another zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead, whose Versus mode placed players in the shoes of both survivors and zombies, Resident Evil 5's version will only place the players either against zombies or against each other.

“Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types,” revealed the Capcom press release. “Slayer's Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor's Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.”

So there you have it, it seems that Capcom aims at making an even bigger profit from the popular game and this new priced multiplayer mode will certainly make a lot of people buy it. Also, with playable characters such as Albert Wesker or Jill Valentine, besides the main ones, Chris Redfield and Sheva, players will gladly pay for it.
