Capcom announced at the Tokyo Game Show that the Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition would be coming to America as soon as it decided on the release format. The game was planned for Japan as an individual item, with its own disc and art-covered box, but there was a debate regarding whether to make the North American release a digital title or not. The best way to settle the matter for Capcom was by asking the very people that would buy the game, so the matter was up for debate on its official site.

Around 1,500 gamers have voted in the Capcom-Unity poll and it seems like the downloadable content has won the race. "Based on your feedback, in North American, European and Australia territories, Capcom will be making the new RE5 content for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 available as downloadable content," Chris Kramer of Capcom said. The idea to leave it up to the fans is a very good one, considering that they are the ones that will buy the title. It's just like allowing share holders to have some choice in the company's development decisions.

Kramer further added that, "You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff, just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you'll be ready to roll in Spring 2010 when we make available new Resident Evil adventures (and some other things we haven't told you about yet) for you." One of the things that the fans managed to bring back to the Resident Evil 5 Alternate Edition was Jill Valentine, as the the character makes a return due to popular demand.

The new level will feature her along with Chris Redfield as they infiltrate and "negotiate the situation" inside the mansion of Ozwell E. Spencer, the founder of the Umbrella Corporation. The scene was present in the Resident Evil 5 game, but it was depicted through flashbacks alone, not an actual interactive experience. The Alternate Edition will also support Sony's upcoming motion controller that was slated for a spring release as well.
