After a magazine leak from Japan, Capcom has now officially confirmed that it will be releasing high definition versions of two of its most popular Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code: Veronica X.

Capcom is joining the HD remake trend, which has been sweeping the industry in the last couple of years, and has revealed that two older Resident Evil games will be making their way in high definition onto the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms this year.

In order to commemorate the 15th anniversary of its popular horror franchise, Capcom will be publishing both the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code: Veronica X, remastered in HD.

The two games will see their graphics overhauled, run in 720p resolution with upgraded textures, and will arrive on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as digital releases, scheduled to appear this fall.

In case you're not familiar with the two games, you'll then be thrilled to hear that you can pick them up now.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the critically acclaimed titles from the last console generation, winning a huge amount of awards and having an average review score of 96 on MetaCritic.

The title sees the player control Leon Kennedy, a former cop from Raccoon City, try to survive in a city filled with mutants and pseudo-zombies while finding evidence to uncover the eerie plot behind the strange events.

Resident Evil 4 HD will include all of the previously released downloadable content for it, and also the Separate Ways epilogue.

You'll go back in time to 1998 in Resident Evil: Code: Veronica X, three months after the total destruction of Raccoon City, and you'll play as Claire Redfield, who is trying to find her brother, Chris.

She ends up captured by the Umbrella Corporation and transported to Rockfort Island, from where she must escape, but not before she collects evidence against the pharmaceutical company.

Until Resident Evil 4 or Code: Veronica X HD appear, you can check out the screenshots below, including a few comparisons between the original and the high definition versions.
