Microsoft is providing Windows users with an automatic method designed to reset the components associated with Windows Update. WU is an integral part of every Windows platform, and one aspect of Microsoft's infrastructure designed to deliver updates for the company's software solutions. As with any other product, Windows Update can also run into problems, preventing end users from accessing updates from Microsoft. One way to resolve potential issues is to reset WU. This is now simpler than ever with the Fix It approach. In KB971058, the Redmond company is allowing users to reset WU components automatically via the Fix It button.

“To reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard. This Fix it Solution has two modes Default and Agressive. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode and determine if it resolves your problem with Windows Update before running it in Agressive mode. This Fix it solution works for all languages. However, for some languages, the wizard text may be in English,” the software giant informed.

For do-it-yourselfers Microsoft has also described in great detail the process that will permit them to manually reset WU. No less than 12 intricate steps will allow users to perform the same action as the automated task and it is sufficient to satisfy those for whom simply clicking a Fix It button and having everything served to them is just not enough. The actions for manually resetting the Windows Update components are also included in KB971058.

“Check whether the Windows Update components are reset. If the Windows Update components are reset, you are finished with this article. If the Windows Update components are not reset, you can contact support,” Microsoft added.
