A paper published in today's issue of The Physical Review Letters details the discovery of a new chemical element by scientists at the Lund University in Sweden.

Truth be told, it appears that researchers in Russia were the first to argue in favor of the existence of this element.

However, the Swedish scientists did find evidence to confirm this theory, so I suppose they do deserve at least some credit for this discovery.

As explained on the official website for the Lund University, this new super-heavy element's atomic number is 115. Scientists are yet to find a suitable name for it.

By the looks of it, the element will get its “baptism” as soon as a committee of brainiacs (i.e. members of the international unions of pure and applied physics and chemistry) review the Swedish researchers' findings and agree that the latter have, in fact, discovered a new chemical element.

The experiments that have led to the discovery of this element were carried out at the GSI research facility in Germany.
