The cloned mice did not show any signs of physical or mental illnesses

A team of Japanese researchers now claim that they have succeeded in creating as many as 581 exact replicas of a run-of-the-mill mouse.

In order to obtain these genetic copies of the animal used in the initial stage of the experiments, the scientists had to resort to 25 rounds of cloning, sources say.

Despite their toying with the mouse's genetic material in this manner, it appears that none of its 581 copies ever displayed any signs of mental or physical illnesses.

Furthermore, none of the clones died at a rather premature age, which is why the researchers who took the time to carry out these cloning experiments believe that their work might soon yield some very practical benefits.

Thus, it is their hope that their experiments will eventually benefit the food industry, seeing how, “perfectly cloned mice could pave the way for milk and meat from 'super' animals created in the lab.”
