14 DAY TRIAL // Rescatux, a Linux distribution that allows users to perform all kinds of rescue operations with the help of an easy-to-use wizard called Rescapp, has been upgraded to version 0.32 Beta 3, and the developer has made a number of important fixes.
The name Rescatux might imply the fact that it's data recovery distribution, but that is not the case. In fact, this is a tool that lets users fix the booting process for Linux and Windows system, for components like Grub or MBR. It might seem like a trivial thing to do, but it's an important tool to have and most users will need it, sooner or later.
Besides this functionality, there are also a few different options that might prove to be just as interesting, like promoting a Windows user to Administrator. Even if this seem at least problematic, there is a good chance that it will have some legitimate reasons to exist.
Also, it's worth pointing out that the system is based on Debian, which comes with regular, tried and tested interface that should pose no problems to the users, even if they never started a Linux OS before.
The latest Rescatux 0.32 beta 3 is not exciting
"As the version name says, this is still a Beta product. This means that some things will work and others still need work. Upgrading Windows users to admin doesn't seem to have any issues, and the same is true for Grub and MBR fixing."
"This new beta release only has a new feature but it’s a long awaited feature. Now you will be able to select your own language, country and keyboard at boot so that, among other things, you can ask help in the integrated chat with your beloved keyboard layout," reads the official website.
This would not have been possible without the work from Tails project on tails-greeter. My tails-greeter fork is a quick and dirty modification so that it fits into Rescatux. However, what I want to achieve is a default greeter in Debian Live so that one can choose its keyboard layout (and other settings) from Xorg.
