14 DAY TRIAL // Despite the fact that people are beginning to come to terms with the “conscious uncoupling” between Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, there are still some issues and rumors floating around about this seemingly amicable split, and this has mostly to do with the fact that their marriage wasn't the blessed union they would want you to believe.
The announcement of the separation was made by Gwyneth, on her lifestyle website Goop, and was signed as coming from both of them. It spoke of some issues they had in their life together, that they were trying to resolve, but it let people believe that this was a friendly goodbye and that there were no hard feelings.
People Magazine is claiming that this is all a bit of a cover up, and that both Martin and Paltrow had been struggling with their marriage for years. In fact, according to a well-placed source, the couple had had an “open” relationship for years.
“They were physically separated and emotionally,” says an insider close to Paltrow and adds that “They have been on and off for many years. The marriage was falling apart.”
The main reasons for this trouble with marriage were personality conflicts and distance, as the actress and the singer worked on different continents most of the time, and whereas he was the kind of guy who liked to dress casual, she was much more at ease in fancy clothes.
Another friend describes him as being “the kind of person who is always in a T-Shirt,” whereas Gwyneth is “much more glam.” However, they did get praises to sticking to this long enough and trying their best to the sake of their two children, daughter Apple, who is nine, and son Moses, who will be soon eight.
Although this does offer some insight into the struggle of both Martin and Paltrow, it fails to address the cheating rumors that are now emerging to say that both husband and wife did their fair share of frolicking outside the bounds of their marital bed.
In Gwyneth's case, it was more evident, as immediately after the split, damning photos of her and an ex-boyfriend made their way in the press, making out at a baseball game, while Paltrow was still married to Martin.
Other sources indicated that this amicable split had a very good reason: that of keeping some embarrassing and potentially compromising scandals out of the press. That means that Chris and Gwyn decided to have a friendly split in order to avoid going to court and having facts recorded into official documents that would then fall into the hands of the press.
This does nothing more than to arouse people's interest as to what might be so scandalous that made these two put aside their differences and relent to a dry and sullen “uncoupling,” as Gwyneth so astutely put it.
