14 DAY TRIAL // 16-year-old Disney star Demi Lovato has relapsed into the habit of hurting herself to learn how to cope with the stress of her extremely busy schedule. The singer and actress who, at such a young age, is already working after a tight schedule and barely has time for herself, is said to have again reached a low point in terms of self-esteem, which is why she has started cutting herself again, The Examiner says.
The report originally comes from Star Magazine, which, although a tabloid that normally commands little trust on behalf of fans and supporters, has photographic evidence that the young Disney star might have begun to inflict pain on herself again. Talk of Lovato cutting her wrists first started last year, when the star was photographed with what looked like painful, red and visibly swollen scars on her arms.
“Disney tween sensation Demi Lovato appears to have relapsed into cutting, a form of self-mutilation where an individual makes small cuts on her body, usually the arms and legs. […] Lovato, 16, was photographed June 24 leaving MTV’s New York studios sporting painful-looking red cuts on her left wrist. […] In October 2008, Lovato sported similar deep cuts on her left wrist at the 16th birthday party of fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus.” The Examiner writes.
As disturbing as that might sound, sources are telling Star (as quoted by The Examiner) that the 16-year-old has again started hurting herself because she no longer can cope with the pressure of everything that’s going on in her life right now. Experts agree that cutting in teens is often related to their belief that this is the only way they can regain control over a certain situation. “Demi has been really stressed out about her new show. She’s not getting enough downtime because there is so much work involved, and she’s always being pulled in different directions.” the unnamed source tells Star.
As of now, a rep for Lovato has refused to comment on the latest rumors. However, as a note, last time speculation began about her cutting her wrists, a publicist was adamant all reports were “entirely false,” no matter the scars that were extremely visible in more than one photo.
