LG is ready to offer customers a second smartwatch

The Google I/O conference saw the taking-off of one of the first Android Wear devices to be rolled out onto the market, the LG G Watch.

That was just two months ago. Now a new report coming out of Asia via The Korean Times claims LG is ready to roll out its second-gen smartwatch. It's funny how product refresh cycles are being taken to a whole new level when smartwatches are concerned.

According to an LG official talking to the publication mentioned above, the company will be unleashing the G Watch 2 at IFA 2014 in September.

“LG Electronics was working on a September for the new smartwatch alongside Google’s wearable platform. The IFA fair may be the venue to see the upgraded smartwatch.”

So if you purchased an LG G Watch, it could be time for you to ditch it in favor of the new model. We’re not exactly sure you should be doing that.

The company representative says the new wearable will take advantage of an OLED display, as opposed to the IPS LCD one in the original LG watch. However, on a screen that tiny it’s likely you won’t see a major difference.

Like the first model, the LG Watch 2 will draw power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, although the company will probably bump things up a little from the 1.2GHz CPU.

Some people were hoping the next-gen LG watch will take advantage of the device maker’s own Odin-branded processors, but it appears this treatment will be reserved for a future smartwatch.

It can be argued that the LG G Watch 2 comes at a crucial a time when Apple is expected to lift the veil off its highly anticipated iWatch, which is believed to revolutionize the smartwatch world.

On top of that, the super hyped round Moto 360 smartwatch should be finally making a debut on the market this September, so LG needs something to keep fans’ attention focused on itself.

What’s interesting is that this new report doesn't mention one important thing – whether or not the LG G Watch 2 will be a standalone device allowing users to place phone calls from their wrists. This rumor surfaced a while ago, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Last but not least, the LG official couldn't say whether the smartwatch will be exhibited at IFA 2014 for the whole world to see or just for the eyes of clients and VIPs. Hopefully, everybody will be invited to take a peek.
