The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge might be Samsung’s best phones to date, but the Korean tech giant had to sacrifice a few things in order to produce such beautiful phones.

For starters, it has kissed goodbye the microSD card slot, and unlike earlier models, the battery of the new flagships is no longer removable.

As teardowns of the two phones have proved, the batteries are glued underneath layers of components, so it would prove extremely difficult for an average user to get deep inside the handset and retrieve it.

However, a scenario might arise when users would find it imperative to replace the battery with a new one. But as Sam Mobile highlights, you should stay clear of prying open the new Galaxy S6 and leave the heavy-duty work to a certified technician.

Samsung will swap your battery out for a cost

A Samsung spokesperson has reportedly revealed that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge battery has a one-year warranty, so the company will be replacing it for free in case maximum capacity falls below 80% of the initial level within the first year since purchase.

But before you can take advantage of this offer, Samsung will send you to a service center to get your phone’s battery capacity checked out.

After the warranty expires, customers will have to pay an extra $45 / €42 plus shipping if they want their battery replaced by an expert. That’s a bit less than the $70 / €65 Apple charges for those looking to get their iPhone battery replaced.

Luckily, the swap can be done in a matter of hours. For example, if you bring the phone at Samsung’s walk-in repair center in Plano, Texas, you can get it back on the same day. More repair centers like this one will start popping out all over the US soon.

On top of that, we’re also told that if you happen to damage the screen in any way, that’s not covered in the warranty, so you’ll need to take another extra $199 / €187 out of your pocket to fix it. By comparison, Apple charges only $109 / €102 for screen repairs performed on the iPhone 6.
