Over the weekend, Lindsay Lohan lost another movie part because of her extended stay in rehab and legal problems, as the director of the upcoming biopic “Inferno” announced they were looking for a replacement.

After promising he would stand by the troubled actress and wait for her until she was done with the treatment for drug addiction, director Matthew Wilder said he eventually had to think about bringing someone else on board.

As we also told you over the weekend, the replacement was announced today: and it’s Malin Akerman of “Watchmen” and “Couples Retreat,” Radar Online informs.

Moreover, despite claims from Lohan’s publicist that the decision was mutual, word in the blogosphere has it that producers wanted Lindsay out because she was a liability and because they liked Malin more.

“Malin, who shot to fame in the Vince Vaughn comedy Couples Retreat, is now costarring with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd in Wanderlust, shooting in New York,” Radar writes.

Getting a lead in “Inferno,” she will undoubtedly see her profile boosted by a lot.

“Radar Online was the first to reveal that Wilder was backing away from his long support of the troubled Lohan to star in his movie. On Wednesday he told us he had a ‘Plan B’ in place,” Radar writes.

“And yesterday, Wilder told us it was a done deal. ‘We’ve fired Lindsay,’ he said, revealing that ‘we’ve already lined up somebody else who we are really happy with’,” the same e-zine notes.

To a different publication, Wilder said there were issues beyond his control that made working with Lindsay an impossibility, wherefrom the decision to end the collaboration.

Shortly after this got out, a publicist for Lohan said the decision had been “mutual” because Lindsay too wanted to focus on her recovery and did not believe getting back to work so soon would be such a good idea.

Lindsay Lohan is to remain at the Betty Ford Clinic until January 3. It is not yet known when shooting for “Inferno” starts.
