Amy Winehouse had no intention of adopting a girl from St Lucia – and certainly did not start the legal proceedings for it, her rep says in response to yesterday’s story of how she was planning on becoming a mother at the time of her death. As we also
informed you, a 10-year-old girl and her grandmother from St Lucia spoke with the British media, claiming that Winehouse was determined to adopt the girl.
She had even initiated the adoption procedure, they claimed. Had she not died last Saturday, she would have flown to the island to pick up her daughter next month – and take her to London to live with her.
None of that is true, a rep for the late singer says for
TMZ.
“Amy Winehouse was absolutely NOT going to adopt a 10-year-old girl from the island of St Lucia, despite UK reports to the contrary, Amy’s rep tells TMZ,” the e-zine writes.
“It’s not true,” the rep says for TMZ. “I think [Amy] might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her,” the publicist adds.
Dannika Augustine, a 10-year-old girl who has been photographed with Amy during one of her many stays on the island with the purpose of staying off drugs, and Marjorie, her grandmother, swore Amy was determined to see the adoption happen.
In fact, the little girl vouched, she was heartbroken because, with Amy’s death, the worst and most unexpected thing in her life had happened.
“Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together,” Dannika said.
“I loved her and she loved me... She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me,” she added.
