Since gossip blogger Perez Hilton outed former N’Sync member Lance Bass by constantly harassing and bullying him on his blog, there’s been much debate on whether it is right or wrong to reveal someone’s orientation before they’re ready to speak out on it. Reporter Itay Hod thinks it’s right, so he’s outing Congressman Aaron Schock on Facebook.

Schock is more than just a politician: through social media and some glossy mags, he’s established himself as a celebrity of sorts. Attached is a photo of his cover for Men’s Health magazine, just so you better get the context.

At the same time, Schock is vocally against marriage equality, having been involved in all the anti-gay legal measures or proposals to have kept headlines in the US media in the past couple of years. In other words, to hear that he’s gay is probably the last thing his voters / supporters would expect.

Which is precisely why Itay Hod, an openly gay former CBS reporter, is taking to Facebook to out him against his will, because this kind of hypocrisy should never be tolerated, all ethical considerations aside.

Hod’s outing comes shortly after a post on The America Blog listing the 7 Gayest Aaron Schock Instagram Posts of 2013. It was probably meant as a joke, but, after it went online, Schock shut down his Instagram.

“what if you know a certain GOP congressman, let's just say from Illinois, is gay... and you know this because one of your friends, a journalist for a reputable network, told you in no uncertain terms that he caught that GOP congressman and his male roommate in the shower... together,” Hod writes.

“now they could have been good friends just trying to conserve water. but there's more. what if this congressman has also been caught by tmz cameras trolling gay bars. now what if you know that this very same guy, the darling of the gop, has also voted against repeal of don’t ask don’t tell, opposed the repeal of doma, is against gay marriage; and for the federal marriage amendment, which would add language to the us constitution banning gay marriage and would likely strike down every gay rights law and ordinance in the country?” he continues.

He doesn’t name Schock in the entire Facebook post, but he links to the story on The American Blog at the end, thus leaving no room for doubt as to the identity of said Congressman. If any of his allegations are true, the scandal would be huge.

So far, Schock has refused to comment on the situation.
