Late last week, the Renault Group issued a press release stating that, in 2013, the company was the European leader in terms of low carbon dioxide emissions resulting from its fleet.

More precisely, the company maintains that, itnsaid year, it averaged 114.7 grams of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer per vehicle.

In doing so, the Renault Group became the first vehicle maker whose fleet-wide emissions remained lower than the 115 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer for a full year, Green Car Congress reports.

“Renault Group has become the European leader in terms of low CO2 emissions, and first automotive group under 115g CO2//km, based upon its sales of passenger cars over the full year 2013,” the company says.

In its press release on the matter at hand, the Renault Group details that, all things considered, its achievement was largely due to so-called rejuvenation of its ranges.

Thus, the company draws attention to the fact that, presently, five of the models it markets, i.e. Twingo, New Clio, Captur, Mégane and Dacia Sandero, emit less than 100 grams of carbon dioxide for each kilometer that they cover.

“Renault Group owes this performance to the recent rejuvenation of its ranges, notably including five models that return less than 100g of CO2/km (Twingo, New Clio, Captur, Mégane and Dacia Sandero),” the company explains.

“Indeed, in the small five-seater diesel car sector, New Clio Energy dCi 90 eco² is the class leader with 83g/km. Overall, the New Renault Clio range emits 18.5g of CO2/km less than the model’s previous generation,” it goes on to detail.

The Renault Group is also convinced that its electric vehicle sales also helped the company become a leader in Europe in terms of low fleet-wide carbon dioxide emissions.

When compared to the year 2012, the average level of carbon dioxide emissions per driven kilometer documented across the company's entire range in 2013 was found to be roughly 8.6% (or 11 grams) lower.

Commenting on the company's becoming a leader in Europe in terms of low carbon dioxide emissions, Jean-Philippe Hermine stated as follows:

“This position of market leader is proof that the combination of our powertrain strategy – with our range of Energy engines – and our electric vehicle strategy is bearing fruit.”

“Thanks to these innovations, Renault Group is achieving tangible results and maintaining its objective to significantly reduce the long-term environmental footprint of its activities. At the same time, these improvements are beneficial for both the planet and our customers,” he added.
