Windows 8.1 is already available for download in Preview form, but everybody is waiting for the RTM version that’s scheduled to be sent to OEMs this month.

What’s more, sources familiar with the matter have indicated that end users could get it in the next couple of weeks, even though previous reports claimed that general availability won’t be announced sooner than October.

As far as features are concerned, Windows 8.1 RTM is expected to pack lots of bug fixes and performance improvements, as users have already reported plenty of issues spotted in the OS update.

What’s more, the release of the final version of Windows 8.1 is likely to generate a new wave of devices running the update, as Microsoft has worked hard with partners to make sure that more users get the chance to try out its new OS.

The company is yet to say something official on the official launch of Windows 8.1, but it did confirm that RTM is prepared for this month, so the stable version should be here by the end of the month.
