Max Payne 3 is one of the high profile video games that will be launched early in the year and the developers at Remedy, the studio which created the first games in the series, believe that Rockstar has done a good job of capturing the essence of the franchise.

Oskari Hakkinen, who is the leader of franchise development at Remedy, has told Kotaku at the CES 2012 event that, “We absolutely love what they’ve done and couldn’t be more proud of where the series is headed. I mean, they don’t really make shitty games, do they?”

He added, “It’s as if the Rockstar logo has become this, ‘Seal of quality.’”

Remedy is a developer based in Finland and in 2001 it has made a mark on the video game world with the first Max Payne title, which mixes a complex noir story with a slew of well developed gameplay mechanics, chief among them the slow motion sequences.

The second game in the series arrived in 2003 and, while it failed to break any truly new ground for the series, it cemented the reputation of Remedy as a solid developer.

Since then the company worked with Microsoft to launch the Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake, which delivered a different style of play, and is now working on Alan Wake's American Nightmare, another installment in the same series which should be launched this year on the Microsoft home console.

The Max Payne 3 series was revived by Rockstar and the third game was set to be launched during 2009 before being pushed back to 2010 and then 2011.

The game will feature an older, paunchier Max who has moved to South American to escape from the nightmares of his past.

The launch date has not been set but in March gamers will be able to get Max Payne 3 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
