Crytek has just confirmed that the original Crysis first person shooter is making its way onto consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the form of a remastered downloadable version this October.

Crytek impressed a huge amount of gamers earlier this year with Crysis 2, one of the most technologically advanced shooters released, a fitting sequel to the original Crysis and its standalone expansion, Crysis: Warhead, which both shocked legions of PC gamers with their high level of visual quality and their downright ridiculous system requirements.

Now, after quite a few rumors earlier this year, Crytek has confirmed that Crysis 1 is being remastered and brought to consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, this fall.

According to the first video of the game, which premiered on GameTrailers, Crysis for consoles brings all the impressive features of the original, but with an array of improvements, including the fact that it's running on the new CryEngine 3 technology.

Among the upgrades we have an all-new lighting system, all new effects and all new controls for the player's Nanosuit, which allows him to use all sorts of special powers, like super speed, super strength or invisibility in order to take down enemies without any sort of problems.

After being released back in 2007 for the PC, consoles gamers will finally be able to enjoy the original Crysis this October, as a downloadable title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, via the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace, respectively.

Until then, however, Crysis 2 is still available for those platforms, managing to showcase that its extremely impressive CryEngine 3 technology can retain its amazing visuals even on consoles, not just on the PC.

The original Crysis scored a prestigious 9.5 in our review, while its successor, the Warhead expansion, got an 8.5. The new Crysis 2 continued the high score trend with a solid 9.
