Last week, the lifeless body of a Mont Blanc climber who had gone missing decades ago was found trapped in ice by a group of French mountaineers who were exploring the Talefre glacier.

Media reports say the French mountaineers discovered the climber's remains quite by chance. Thus, the corpse emerged from the ice due to recent melt events in the region, and the mountaineers simply stumbled upon it.

At the time the body was found, it was sticking out of the ground at an altitude of about 2,687 meters (approximately 8,815 feet). Ironically enough, the remains were not all that far from the Couvercle mountain shelter.

Shortly after coming across these human remains, the French mountaineers alerted authorities. Eventually, the corpse was recovered and transported to the town of Chamonix in France's Haute-Savoie province.

Police officers in said town were the ones who managed to figure out whom the remains belonged to. In a nutshell, the body was found to be that of a young climber named Patrice Hyvert, International Business Times informs.

Information shared with the public says Patrice Hyvert was only 23 years old at the time he went missing. The incident occurred back in 1982, when the young man decided to go about climbing the Nant Blanc glacier all by himself.

Talking to the press, Patrice Hyvert's parents explained the young man hoped to reach the 4,122-meter-high (13,523 feet) glacier's peak, and then ski his way down. Unfortunately, things did not play out as planned.

By the looks of it, 23-year-old Patrice Hyvert was caught in a storm, and was eventually covered in heavy snowfall. In fact, his parents recollect that, because of how severe the storm was, rescue helicopters had to wait a couple of days before even trying to find him.

When a rescue crew did make it to the region, they only managed to locate and save another alpinist, a man by the name Jean-Marc Boivin. The Chamonix native, however, was nowhere to be found, most likely because his body was buried in snow.

Not too long after being rescued, Jean-Marc Boivin himself admitted that, when the storm hit, conditions on the mountain turned pretty bad, and that he must have been one really lucky fellow to make it out of this experience alive.

Now that his body has finally been found, it is to be expected that 23-year-old Patrice Hyvert will finally receive a proper burial. Besides, chances are this discovery has brought the young man's parents at least some comfort.
