Paramount Pictures makes official announcement about upcoming installment

The first “Paranormal Activity” film was the biggest sleeper of 2009, so it's no wonder Paramount Pictures capitalized on that in a flash with a sequel. A fourth is now on the way.

Earlier this week, we informed you that the studio had confirmed the fourth installment – including a release date, set vaguely for 2012.

We now have an official date as well, as Slash Film can confirm.

“Now Paramount has announced that Paranormal Activity 4 will hit on October 19,” the movie oriented e-zine writes.

“That’s right in the same window that the studio has been using in the past couple years for Paranormal sequels,” the same publication notes.

“The third film opened on Oct 21, 2011, and took in over $50m [€39 million] that weekend. The fourth entry in the series will probably cost a third of that, at most,” Slash Film estimates.

The assumption is based on the fact that the “PA” films – and especially the third – have been losing ground with fans, many of who believe the franchise should have ended right after the second film.

Even so, “PA3” was still a hit and, compared to other sequels, it was considerably above average.

Considering this – and the fact that it performed so well at the box office –, it makes sense for Paramount to order a fourth.

Many will still turn up to see it, if only to see with their own eyes which direction the mythology takes.

“Paranormal Activity” tells the story of a haunting that goes back in the childhood years of the haunted girls.

Unlike most franchises, this one actually goes back in time, to the root of all evil.

For the time being, these are all the details available on the fourth film. The moment a story line, a director and cast, and characters are announced, rest assured you'll find out about it here.
