Sony, as the publisher, and Quantic Dream, as the developer, have announced that they will be releasing Heavy Rain in North America and in Europe on February 23. The game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 console and will bear a price of 59.99 dollars. The United Kingdom region will be getting the title two days later. It has been rated M for Mature as it will be featuring unclothed people and violence directed at various characters.

Heavy Rain is set to tell the story of how four characters with very different backgrounds deal with the so-called Origami Killer. An FBI agent will use high-tech gadgets to track down the murderer, a private detective will rely on human intelligence and on talking to those affected, and an architect and a female investigative journalist will also be involved.

The story will allow all of them to be killed during the game and players will be able to continue with the death integrated into the narrative. Heavy Rain will have a film noir feel and players will be deeply immersed into an experience set to feel more like a movie than a videogame.

Quantic Dream is well known for creating Indigo Prophecy, also known as Fahrenheit, a game that arrived on the PlayStation 2, the original Xbox and the PC. It also attempted a cinematic experience and offered some very interesting moments but the technology of 2005 was not good enough to allow director David Cage to realize his vision for the title.

The people at Quantic Dream have said that they are preparing a demo Heavy Rain, which will be released on the PlayStation Network. At the moment, a suitable scene from the game is being chosen and a release date is being evaluated. The company has also confirmed that its title will be getting a downloadable content pack titled The Taxidermist, soon after the official release date.
