Plastic Piranha's upcoming first-person arena shooter Rekoil gives talented modders the chance to win a gaming rig and other prices in its new map-making contest.

Plastic Piranha and 505 Games aim to bring multiplayer shooter action back to the hectic basics. Instead of going the Call of Duty or Battlefield way, where players gradually unlock skills and weapons, Rekoil will offer everything from the very start.

Over 40 weapons will be available for players to shoot friends, enemies and everything else with an electronic pulse, in fast-paced and highly balanced arena shooting action.

Interested gamers can register for a free Steam code for the Rekoil map-making mod tools on the Rekoil Map Making Competition registration page. The maps will then be uploaded to Steam via Steam Workshop, with instructions and directions to be posted closer to the deadline.

Admissions will be taken until March 7, and starting March 14, developer Plastic Piranha will hold a Play & Vote weekend event, where players can try out all the maps and vote their favorite.

When the contest ends, the map with the most votes will earn its maker an Alienware Aurora gaming desktop with a Dell UltraSharp monitor, and Alienware TactX keyboard, TactX mouse and TactX headset gaming peripherals.

Inexperienced modders will also be able to participate in the competition, as the 505 Games official announcement informs that basic tutorials will be uploaded in the near future, by none other than modder and CEO of Plastic Piranha, Jason Bryce.

Rekoil will have a strong focus on modding and its eSports potential, and will be available on Steam starting January 28, with a price tag of $15 / €14.
