Staff at Reid Park Zoo in Arizona, US, are happy to announce that this wildlife park is now home to an adorable baby elephant. The young pachyderm is a gorgeous young lady and was born to mom Semba and father Mabu.

Vets working with Reid Park Zoo say that the baby elephant is in good health. It currently tips the scale at 245 pounds (approximately 111 kilograms), but will get considerably plumper in the months to come, Zoo Borns informs.

According to Zoo Borns, the calf was born late at night on August 20. It stood up shortly after delivery, and just a few days later, got to enjoy its first mud bath. Check out the video below to see it splashing around in dirt.

Seeing how it has already delivered two other calves, both of which are males, mother Semba is well prepared to look after its latest bundle of joy. More so since it is getting help from the rest of the herd.

As reported on several occasions, elephants are currently in danger of going extinct. Thus, the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers African elephants a vulnerable species.

The main threat to these animals' long-term survival is some folks' passion for killing them and stripping them of their horns, which are used either to make various trinkets or turned into powder that too many people think can treat various conditions.
