A young boy from China has “given birth” to his lifeless brother. The fetus had been growing inside him after the pair developed as twins in the mother's womb.

According to the Mirror, Xiao Feng was taken to a doctor after his stomach swelled up, growing to two thirds its regular size. He lives with his family in the Huaxi village and he has had the twin in his stomach for two years.

The fetus had formed a spine, fingers and toes. Doctors say that he would have continued growing, had he not been removed.

This is called the “parasitic twin” phenomenon, and the fetus can grow large enough to stop the breathing of the child carrying it. It occurs when an egg splits while it is being fertilized, which is quite uncommon.
