14 DAY TRIAL // Reese Witherspoon wants her two children with ex husband Ryan Phillippe, Ava and Deacon, to know that, sometimes, things don't work out in a relationship. Abuse can be just one of the causes to end a romance.
As a Global Ambassador for the Avon Foundation, the actress often draws attention to issues like domestic violence and, according to People magazine, it's not just in public that she does it.
At home too, Reese makes sure her two children know what abuse is and what one should do in such a situation.
“We talk about domestic violence and what that means,” the actress says for the magazine, on the occasion of the 2nd World Conference of Women's Shelters in Washington, DC.
They might be still young to complete understand it – Ava is 12, Deacon is 8 – but they're already familiar with the concept.
“Although the concept is somewhat foreign to them, they're starting to understand that this happens to families in our country and all throughout the world,” the actress adds.
One case her two kids know only too well is that of Rihanna and Chris Brown, Reese reveals. They also know that Chris was the one who was at fault for what happened back in 2009.
“My daughter knows what happened. My son knows as well. We talk about what is abuse. I think it's important to talk to our daughters – and our sons – in order to educate them at an early age about what's appropriate and what is absolutely not acceptable,” Reese says.
As fans must already know, in 2009, on their way home from a Grammy party, Rihanna and her then-boyfriend Chris Brown got into a very heated argument.
It ended up badly for her, with a trip to the hospital, after he punched her and bashed her head against the dashboard of the car. They broke up immediately afterwards.
It could be that Reese's comments were prompted by recent rumors that Rihanna and Chris are back together.
They may or may not be an item yet, but they're definitely working together again, as we also reported a short while ago.
