14 DAY TRIAL // Following a highly mediated divorce from Ryan Phillippe, it’s no wonder actress Reese Witherspoon wanted to keep her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal a secret for so long. The two confirmed dating only the other week, when Jake referred to her as his “girlfriend” – and Us Magazine says they’re already broken up.
The reason why Reese chose and fought to keep the relationship as much out of the public eye as possible is that she was only looking out for the two children she has with Ryan, as she did not want them dragged into the frenzy that is usually generated whenever two stars of their magnitude start dating. The children are also the reason behind the reported recent split, with Reese not being yet ready to tie the knot again, an unnamed source reveals for the aforementioned magazine.
“‘It broke his heart,’ an insider reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. A source close to Gyllenhaal, 29, explains that the once-golden couple ‘fought constantly in the past few months,’ and that the relationship concluded over a series of phone calls. Adds another source, ‘No one cheated. There was no drama’,” the publication writes. The romance was cut short over the phone for the simple reason that Reese and Jake were not in the same town, both being away on location when the decision was made.
According to other unnamed tipsters willing to spill the beans on what was Hollywood’s most low-profile relationship in years, Jake had serious thoughts about their future together, having even dropped several hints about getting married. Reese, on the other hand, was not ready yet for this kind of commitment, often feeling as if she deprived her kids of her attention when she was with Jake, the spies say.
“She felt pressured to wed again but she wasn’t ready. She couldn’t give Jake enough and she got cold feet. Jake wanted all of her. She really worried that they didn’t have enough in common. When she was giving all of her energy to Jake, she felt like she wasn’t giving her kids enough,” one of the insiders says for the US mag.
