Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth were both arrested in Atlanta early Friday morning and, according to reports in the media, she tried to use the celebrity card when dealing with the police officers.

TMZ reports that cops pulled the car over after they noticed it was weaving in and out of lanes. Toth was driving and, the police report notes, he looked intoxicated, having droopy eyelids, bloodshot eyes, and a strong alcohol smell on his breath.

As the officers proceeded to having him arrested, Reese repeatedly tried to use her celebrity status to speed things up, asking them things like “Do you know my name?”

To this, one cop answered with “No, I don’t need to know your name,” the celebrity e-zine informs.

“You're about to find out who I am... You are going to be on national news,” she told him.

“During Jim's arrest, Reese allegedly became ornery, demonstrating visual and verbal frustration over how long it was taking to arrest her husband,” TMZ writes.

“At one point, she got out of her car and the officer ordered her back inside. When she got out a second time, he arrested her for disorderly conduct, a municipal ordinance,” adds the same media outlet.

Jim was arrested for DUI. Both were taken to the police station, booked and released, and will have to show up in court at a later date.

After word of the arrest got out in the press, Witherspoon issued a statement to apologize for her actions and to stress that not all that’s being said on the topic is true.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she says.

“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior,” the actress adds.
