The newest version of Redsn0w, the iPhone Dev Team’s popular jailbreak utility for Mac and Windows, reportedly supports iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2, seeded by Apple last week.

According to Musclenerd, the most vocal member of the iPhone Dev Team, “The latest redsn0w will JB today's 5.0.1b2”. However, he notes that jailbreakers will be required to “point it at either 5.0 or 5.0b1 IPSW for now.”

“Apple's being ruthless with betas!”, he writes on Twitter.

Answering queries from his followers, Musclenerd adds that “currently the only untethered iOS5 JB is for old-bootrom 3GS. Everything beyond that is work in progress with no ETAs.”

In other words, this remains a tethered jailbreak for users of an iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, iPad 1 and 2, and iPhone 4S. The team’s goal is to achieve an untethered hack for all devices via PwnageTool, their flagship jailbreak & unlock application (exclusive to Mac OS X users).
