Redshift 1.6 Cosmos App Now Supports iPhone 5, Adds Solar System View

Astronomy app Redshift now fully supports the four-inch display of the iPhone 5, which means you’ll no longer see those annoying dark stripes on the edges of your screen in version 1.6, available today from iTunes.

Released as a free update to all existing users, Redshift 1.6 adds iPhone 5 support, the ability to land on planets and their moons, panoramas of our own beloved Moon and the red planet Mars, planetary/lunar orbits, and meteor showers.

Avid users of Redshift will also rejoice at the sight of the new solar system view, a new slider for the panorama transparency, and a selector of constellations to-be-displayed.

The usual bag of fixes has also been incorporated in this update, says USM, the developer. Redshift 1.6 requires any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad that runs iOS 4.3 or later.

For newcomers, a little warning is in order. The app is a tad expensive ($11.99/€10.99) but not if you take into account the sheer amount of astronomic oomph it packs.
