Some of Apple's Mac models as well as the iPod line will be getting an update sometime in the near future. This is not prediction, but merely a fact known to all who have any idea about Apple, their product and their product cycles. The rumor mill is in agreement on the fact that the new iMacs will be seeing a redesign and that the mini
will be put to sleep; the one thing they cannot agree on however, is the timing.

Many rumor sites reported that the new models would be previewed at the World Wide Developer's Conference, while others said that this would not be the case. Now, the sites that said that the new products will not be unveiled at WWDC, are predicting a timeframe between the latter half of July and mid-August. This would place the release of the new models at a good time to rake in sales from higher-education individuals and back-to-school shoppers in general. Of course, the timing also makes sense, since Apple won't want to release any new products too soon after the launch of the iPhone.

The consensus on the redesigned iMacs hints that there might be truth to it, but the timing is still unclear. In two weeks time, the sites that were reporting that the new models would make a splash at WWDC will be going for the half of July and mid-August timeframe, but only because it is the next logical point in time when Apple could make such an announcement.

Rumors regarding Apple products have a way of catching a life of their own. Much like the iPhone - which was a regular rumor for years before Apple actually announced anything - there might be some truth in there somewhere, but Apple moves in ways known only to them. Sure, redesigned iMacs are a certainty, as Apple is not going to discontinue them and the products will receive a face-lift sooner or later, but when is an entirely different matter.
