Reddit has had a great year, that much seemed obvious as the site popped up all over the place and more often in recent months. But the site is providing the stats to back this up, page views more than tripled in 2010, this while people spent more time on the site.

Reddit got about 250 million page views in January 2010. Fast forward to December 2010 and Reddit is seeing some 829 million page views.

Even more interesting, while the average visit lasted 12 minutes and 41 seconds at the start of the year, it rose to 15 minutes and 21 seconds in December, so users are not only flipping through more entries, but also spending more time with them.

The site actually got off to a bad start as it was constantly experiencing issues as the servers struggled to keep up with the traffic. Reddit had to appeal to its users, asking for donations of sorts, in order to keep it afloat.

The community rallied and helped Reddit add 69 new servers, ending the year with 119 servers, up from 50. If you're interested in the more geeky stats, Reddit now has 1214 GB of RAM at its disposal, compared to 424 GB at the start of the year, and 48 TB of storage, up from 16 TB in January.

All of this is still handled by four engineers though, Reddit revealed. Reddit also compared search quality, something a bit harder to measure, which went from "sucked" in January all the way up to "works" in December.

While Reddit did a lot of things right in this period, at least part of its growth has to be attributed to troubles Digg has been having. The popular news aggregator, which is in many ways very similar to Reddit, had a very rough period with the botched transition to Digg v4, a revamped version of the site that didn't go well with Digg's core users.
