Reddit has officially launched the live-blogging platform that the company has been working on for a while. Reddit Live has been in a semi-open beta for a while now and it hasn’t exactly been a secret.

During the first phase of the entire process, only Reddit employees were able to create these live streams and to authorize trusted testers to contribute. Now that the service has been launched, everyone can use Reddit Live, start new threads and submit them to a dedicated subreddit.

The posts appear in the window instantaneously after they were posted, making the “Live” portion of the name to be quite accurate. Basically, this is just like on many other sites where live updates are required to cover certain important topics.

The service supports embedded tweets, complete with the various media files attached to them. It’s also possible to add images, YouTube videos and article links to make the experience as complete as possible.

“Reddit live is a new feature of reddit for real-time updates. A reddit live thread’s multiple contributors can post updates, and anyone watching gets sent those updates immediately without having to refresh. Unlike with self-post or comment based live threads, there's no limit to how many updates can be posted during the course of an event. These live threads exist outside of subreddits and are designed to be submitted, like any other link, to whichever (multiple) subreddits are relevant to the thread. Pictures, video, and more can be embedded in the updates by simply pasting a link,” the company’s announcement reads.

Reddit declares itself excited to see what ingenious ways users will find to make use of the new service. since Reddit isn’t exactly a traditional platform for publishing information. However, the large number of users in the community are sure to find cool ways to cover various topics, and even important things happening around the world, where the latest information is essential.

The cool thing is that it will be possible to each of these threads to your RSS feed to make sure you get a notification of all the updates, but you should keep in mind that things may get a little crazy in the process since there are so many Reddit users who may want to add their own information to the blog, if permitted.

Overall, it seems that redditors are pretty happy with the new feature and they’re already throwing around scenarios where it may come in handy, such as hurricanes and other natural disasters, war zones, major accidents and more.
