You can now embed Reddit comment threads

In a recent blog post, Reddit announces that the comments users post on the website are now embeddable.

This is not news for most redditors as the developers informed the public about the new feature that they were planning on introducing. About a month ago, they released a statement saying that they were testing it and that it would be available in open beta for all Reddit users.

The addition of this feature is in no way innovative given that many other platforms have had it for quite some time, but it is definitely a big step for Reddit users, who no longer have to take screenshots whenever they want to share content from the website.

It’s a big step for the platform as well since, with this new feature, it is prone to gain more visitors if users start advertising the website using the embedded comments.

How the embedding function works

In case you did not know the embedding works, the site has also provided detailed instructions on how to do it. You can find them on their official blog, although it is basically the same as any other social media platform, such as Twitter or Facebook.

This has made people curious whether they will be able to know whether their comments are embedded, but the developers are not sure if this will be possible in the near future.

Given that some Reddit comments have become quite famous online after having appeared in renowned publications, this request coming from users is not absurd at all.

Even if you embed only one comment from a discussion and choose to leave out the parent comment, the embed will contain a link that will take you to the original comment thread.

Also, Reddit announces that, if the author edits the embedded comments, this will be shown in the embed, while "Deleted comments are replaced by a note that the comment has been deleted, and a link back to the full comment discussion thread on Reddit."
