The cybercriminals have placed their message inside the malware's code

Brian Krebs is a highly respected member of the information security industry, but in this field, you can’t be good and not have a few enemies. Considering the large number of cybercriminal groups he has exposed, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that a lot of shady characters don’t like him.

Last month, cybercriminals launched a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack against his website and even SWATed his house.

Now, researchers from security firm Sophos have identified an interesting string in the source code of the latest RedKit exploit kit.

Among the malicious pieces of code, experts have found this one: “Crebs, its your fault (sic).”

While this isn’t a major threat, it clearly demonstrates that the operations of the notorious exploit kit’s authors have been impacted by Krebs’ work.

This isn’t the first time when Sophos identifies such messages hidden in malware. Last year, they found a piece of malware that contained strings which read “Sophos sucks.”

Earlier this year, they discovered an exploit kit which contained the following message: “Dear Sofos, what do you need from me? I do not understand. Please [expletive] off! ThankYou!”
