Any serious movie maker or just dreaming of becoming the next Peter Jackson should definitely take a look at the Red-One camera.

It's like nothing you've seen before. Perhaps the best definition is the one provided on the site: "The idea behind the RED camera system is
simple. Design and build a high performance digital cine camera with the quality of 35mm film and convenience of pure digital. RED delivers unmatched image quality with no recording system limitations."

What you get is an HD camera with a modular system with a Mysterium Super 35mm cine sized (24.4×13.7mm) sensor that packs 12 megapixels and goes up to 60 frames per second. The advantage of such a large sensor is the excellent depth of field and selective focus found in film cameras. Moreover, the large sensor with large 29 sq. micron pixels gives you excellent signal to noise ratios.

The camera works with an impressive number of accessories, including Red-Rail mounting accessories, High-resolution RED monitors and other third party products.

In terms of lenses, it takes any existing P/L mount S16mm or 35mm lens, but there's also a specialized Red lineup, which includes the RED 50-150mm T-3(f2.8) Zoom, with a MSRP of $8,500, RED 18-50mm F2.8 CF LENS, with a MSRP of $6,500, RED 300m F2.8 LENS, with a MSRP of $4,950 and the RED PRIME SET (15mm f2.8, 25mm f1.9, 35mm f1.9, 50mm f1.9, 85mm f1.9), with a MSRP of $19,975. Yes, unfortunately it's true, professional movie making is not cheap.

The good news is that the Red-One, first announced at NAB, will finally be available for purchase. The first 25 units will be available starting August 21st for around $17,500. Note that the price is for the camera itself, so no lenses and extra accessories for you.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
